BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture (Add-On)

Course Description

The practice of interior architecture is concerned with exploring new and exciting ways to re-use our existing built environment.  Our built environment courses draw on expertise in architecture, design, construction, technology and cutting edge teaching methodology to offer a curriculum which is finely tuned towards the possibilities for this rapidly evolving profession.  Our interior architecture and interior design programmes are taught in common across most modules and share design studio to foster collaboration and cross disciplinary endeavour

 

At the end of this add on year successful graduates can apply to transfer into the final year of the Ab Initio Level 8 BA in Interior Architecture in order to be eligible to receive recognition from the ECIA (European Council of Interior Architects) and be part of the ongoing validation process to do with accreditation from the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) associated with our Ab Initio Level 8 BA in Interior Architecture (Honours)

 

Key Skills

  • Design related problem-solving skills involving the ability to operate creatively, three-dimensionally and technically
  • Technical knowledge and skills relating to the construction, conservation, restoration, refurbishment, fit-out, repurposing and servicing of both new and existing buildings
  • Design communication skills involving the ability to draw and communicate, utilising conventional hand-drawing techniques, 2D and 3D AutoCAD, 3DStudio, and Photoshop
  • A critical understanding of the history and theory of architecture and design
  • The ability to engage with and contribute to architectural  critical debate

Career Opportunities

The graduate will be equipped with the skills to work anywhere where new interior are being created.   Interior architects collaborate with architects, specialist designers, engineers, lighting and service consultants, crafts-people, fabricators, manufacturers and contractors in a huge variety of scenarios extending to almost any building size, type or function. Opportunities exist in: a range of architectural design practices and organisations; local authorities; specialist design offices; media and performing arts; galleries and museums; and contracting and manufacturing companies.
