Level 9 Postgraduate Diploma [PGD] in Quality Management
The School of Engineering in IT, Sligo offers a one-year fulltime Level 9 Postgraduate Diploma in Quality Management.
Course Description:
This add-on L9 Postgraduate Diploma is designed for L8 graduates in Business, Science and Engineering who are interested in pursuing a career in quality management or performance improvement and optimisation.
The subjects covered, table 1, are a broad spectrum of modern quality management and improvement techniques and methods. Subjects range from the holistic approach of total quality management to the more specific ones used in process control, validation and optimisation methods. The interaction of people and organisations and the operational aspects of quality and change management are also addressed.
PGD students will have the opportunity to attain high levels of competency in the application of quality management principles for optimising the performance of processes and organisations of all sizes in all sectors of the economy. You will leave the course proficient in areas ranging from Validation through Six-Sigma and LEAN. You will also be capable of working with others in a regulated environment to maximise the potential benefits of these approaches to any organisation in any sector of the economy. This outcome requires considerable commitment from you.
This fulltime course is delivered using a combination of lectures underpinned with enquiry based learning [EBL] techniques allowing the student to gain a deeper understanding of the practical application of the various skills taught.

Key skills acquired:
- Management of the quality, environment and health & safety management system.
- Leadership and facilitation skills in problem solving, error prevention and continual improvement/optimisation methods. These will include: Validation, LEAN and Six-Sigma expertise.
- Dealing with customer and other interested parties concerning quality and regulatory matters.
- Facilitation skills necessary for the full exploitation of optimisation techniques as part of any organisational transformation process.

Quality professionals have knowledge of the concepts underlying the achievement of product and service quality and the need for never ending improvement and optimisation. They work with others to establish clearly defined requirements for product and service delivery and make sure these are met as effectively and efficiently as possible. They lead the ongoing continual improvement of all processes affecting quality as well as process validation and the maintenance of accreditation, compliance and regulatory matters.
Award:
Postgraduate Diploma Level 9 with 60 credits.
Duration:
One year full-time. A forty hour week commitment is expected eighteen of these hours are contact/taught/directed.

Fulltime 32.
Minimum Entry Requirements:
L8 degree qualification level 2.2 or better in Business, Science or Engineering or an equivalent qualification in these disciplines.
Please Note:
This is an intensive one-year fulltime course producing quality management graduates with the high levels of competency demanded by employers.
In addition to the core subjects these competencies include: problem solving, team-working, communication, documentation as well as rational and abstract thinking.
It is essential for employability that the student is comfortable with these competencies and gives total commitment to the course.
Where deemed necessary by the Institute applicants may be required to attend for interview before an offer of acceptance can be made.
